The Downtown Denver Partnership is leading efforts to create the 5280 Trail, a bold, visionary project that will transform how the public right-of-way is used in Downtown Denver. The 5280 will link neighborhoods and connect people by reimagining underutilized streets into the essential Downtown experience uniting urban life with Colorado’s outdoor culture.
Prioritizing PEOPLE, HEALTH, CULTURE and NATURE, the 5280 Trail is a new, distinctly Denver amenity that connects many vibrant and diverse city center neighborhoods through the great urban outdoors, creating a powerful SENSE OF PLACE.
Places
Places refer to unique neighborhood character areas where the design character of the 5280 Trail is elevated beyond the standard design. Places are intended to celebrate the unique character of each neighborhood by showcasing local culture, history, architecture, and special features while providing community gathering spaces like parks, grand boulevards, reimagined streets, festival streets, and alleys.
Links
Links refer to the complete system of physical elements that reimagine a street into a linear park. Links can take on a number of configurations throughout the 5280 Trail, and they are all composed of the same elements – paver design, furnishings, native plantings – to provide cohesive, intuitive, and recognizable design that leads to a prioritized experience for people walking and biking along the linear park.
Project Updates
Nearly 25% of the future footprint of the 5.280 mile linear park is currently in next steps development. This can include community discussion and confirmation of 5280 Trail alignment in public parks via City-led Parks Master Plans (such as Sunken Gardens Park Master Plan and La Alma Lincoln Park Master Plan). It can also include conceptual design on segments such as 21st Street, or dollars committed to final design and construction of a segment of the 5280 Trail, such as Acoma Street.
Explore the 5280 Trail
The 5280 Trail will link neighborhoods and connect people along a 5+ mile urban trail that weaves through rich communities and key landmarks. The route builds on previous planning studies such as the Downtown Area Plan, The Outdoor Downtown, Northeast Neighborhood Plan and Next Steps Study, Golden Triangle Plan, Auraria Master Plan, State Capitol Complex Master Plan, and more.
The 5280 Trail will facilitate unique character zones for each neighborhood by showcasing local culture, iconic features, architecture, and history with elements of a linear park providing community gathering and green spaces. Neighborhoods connected by the trail include: Golden Triangle, La Alma/Lincoln Park, AHEC, LoDo, Ballpark/Five Points, and Capitol Hill.
